Patients’ Beliefs in Optimal Pain Management: A Pilot Study

Opioids are commonly prescribed for chronic pain despite potential adverse side effects, risks of misuse and abuse, limited evidence improved outcomes. Patients’ perspectives understanding management may impact treatment approaches the success therapies. Yet, few studies have investigated how patients’ beliefs in optimal influence their care. We prospectively surveyed 200 patients with aim assessing on pain. The following significant findings were made: 1) most responders agreed that opioid medication was best way to control (p<0.05), especially those currently taking opioids (p<0.0001); 2) who received injections disagreed 3) participants aware other options but significantly less (p<0.05). This study demonstrated our clinic believed option treating pain, this finding did not hold true exposed interventions such as injections. Pain physicians encounter resistance when attempting incorporate non-opioid or non-pharmacological therapies management. Further research help determine whether patient education exposure can combat these challenges.
